2012 Scholarship Competition
Graduating seniors, get your dancing shoes on! GHS will award two $1000 scholarships to the contestants whose essay and dance presentation best exemplify 1940s music, costume and dance. Applications and essays are due March 2, 2012. Finalists will perform for a panel of judges on March 25, and the winners will perform again for the Society's membership at a date to be announced later this spring. Application forms and more information are available from counselors at Georgetown, Richarte and Gateway High Schools, or by clicking here.

Battle of San Gabriel/Steinheimer treasure, by well known Texas author Mike Cox.
Mike is the winner of the A.C. Greene Award given to distinguished Texas authors and also writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column called Texas Tales. Mike will discuss Manuel Flores' insurrection efforts in early Texas history ending in the fight of the San Gabriel River, and the legend of the man trailing Flores and his men, Karl Steinheimer and his lost treasure. Program starts at 10:00 am. Open to the public.
Saturday - March 3
On the road again!
Join us for an all-day bus trip to historic Waco, Texas. As we travel north, start your day with coffee and muffins prepared by Laurie Locke. Once in Waco, tour the Armstrong Browning Library, the Earle Napier Kinnard Historic Home and the East Terrace Historic Home, along with driving tours through Cameron Park & Gardens and Waco's historic cemetery, a stop at the Dr. Pepper Museum and lunch at the Elite Cafe. On the trip home, enjoy wine and appetizers by Laurie.
The bus leaves Grace at 8:00 am and returns at approximately 5:30 pm. Special price for GHS business and sustaining members is $65/person; for all others, $75/person. All prices include transportation, entry fees, lunch and snacks. RSVP required, to georgetownhs@verizon.net or 512 869-8597.

Heritage Gardening
Elizabeth Grider will discuss heritage gardening. The program starts at 7:00 pm, and is open to the public.
